JoEllen Neefe, R.D. Joins Prairie Clinic Team of Professionals

JoEllen Neefe, R.D. recently joined the team of professionals at Prairie Clinic S.C. as the Director of the Diabetes Care Program. JoEllen has been a registered dietitian for three years, and has a background in general and geriatric nutrition prior to joining Prairie Clinic.

Registered Dietitians must have at least a four-year degree in dietetics/nutrition, complete a 1 year internship, and pass a National Exam to have the credentials, R.D. by their name. JoEllen Neefe received her Bachelor of Science degree in Dietetics from UW-Stevens Point and completed her internship at Viterbo University in LaCrosse.

The Diabetes Care Program at Prairie Clinic was accredited by the American Diabetes Association in 1989.

"It is exciting to be a part of a group that has been serving diabetic patients for many years. I look forward to being a part of growing the program as we provide patients with the tools necessary to self manage their diabetes. We believe that knowledge and understanding of diabetes or any other chronic medical condition, is key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and reducing the risk of medical complications".

As the Director of the Prairie Clinic Diabetes Care Program, JoEllen will be working closely with Prairie Clinic physicians and other program team members providing patients with excellent health care in a friendly and professional environment. Carlene Roelke, RN, CDE, who has been with Prairie Clinic as a Certified Diabetes Educator for over ten years said, "It is great to have JoEllen as a part of Prairie Clinic. She is not only a diabetic educator,some may call her a 'life coach'."

JoEllen believes that a healthy diet and regular, physical activity are major factors in the promotion and maintenance of good health throughout life. Unhealthy diets and physical inactivity are the two main modifiable risk factors for high blood pressure, high blood glucose, abnormal blood lipids, overweight/obesity, and for the major chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and diabetes.

JoEllen's appointment schedule is open to a variety of patients of all ages, with nutritional concerns including those wanting to discuss weight loss, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, as well as diabetes. JoEllen is also available to counsel patients regarding digestive problems, eating disorders and sports nutrition, geriatric nutrition.
